About GLAD

  • Who are we and what do we do?

Founded early in 2011 – the original brainchild of our Postmistress and Lollipop man, who noted that although the largest village in Calstock Parish, we were the only one without a Drama Group

  • No pantomime had been performed in Gunnislake for 40 years

There was a gathering of like-minded people to see if we could put together a Pantomime in the village. It took quite a lot of meetings and a lot of discussion – although we had a lot of talent, we had very little experience

  • Original Aims – to encourage all ages in the village to come together, have fun and put on a pantomime, using local talent whenever possible

A Committee was founded, a Constitution written, people recruited, costumes donated, funds raised (by Grants, sponsorship, donations, raffles and all other means!) and a first sketch performed at the Gunnislake Festival in August 2011

  • February 2012 – “Babes in the Wood” – written and directed by Mark Seaman - performed to some acclaim in Gunnislake Primary School

  • August 2012 – “Babes in the Wood the Sequel” performed at Gunnislake Festival. Reprised at Callington Honey Fair in October

  • February 2013 – “Aladdin” – directed by Lorna Baker – performed at Gunnislake Primary School. (Also to acclaim, of course)

  • February 2014 – “The Gunnislake Royal Variety Performance” – directed by Jackie Coombs with a cast of thousands and “Her Majesty” at the Gunnislake Theatre Royal (aka the Primary School)

  • 2014/2015: Murder Mystery performance, (September) and February 2015 Panto “The Wizard of Kernow”.
